2013 – The awards are held for the first time as the Men’s Fashion Explosion

Ugandans descend upon MTN Arena in Lugogo to attend the first fashion award giving event in Kampala. The whole glamour and glitzy thing is new but Ugandans embrace it as they attend in droves. The event is called ‘Men’s Fashion Explosion’ featuring a men’s fashion show and an award giving gala. Sylvia Owori is honored with the award for designer of the year and socialite Zari Hassan is named the Most stylish female celebrity in Kampala.


2014 – The event becomes the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards and is held at Serena Hotel for the first time

The event rebrands to Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards with an objective of celebrating fashion and style in Uganda. The number of categories grows to include Most Stylish couple, Most stylish Ugandan in the Diaspora and more. The event is held at Serena Hotel in Kampala for the first time. Santa Anzo is honored with the Lifetime achievement award for her work in taking Ugandan fashion to the global stage.


2015 – Princess Elizabeth Bagaaya is honored with the Lifetime Achievement award

The awards go regional with categories catering to all fashion and style influencers in the East African region. Celebrities and stakeholders in the East African fashion industry from all over the region descend upon Serena Hotel in Kampala to attend the event. Tooro princess Elizabeth Bagaaya is honored with the Lifetime achievement award for her work as one of the first Ugandan models to take the global stage. She received the award from the founder of the awards Brian Ahumuza. Nigerian star Banky W is flown in to perform at the event.


2016 – The awards take over Africa

The whole of Africa is welcomed to what is about to be the fashion event of the year. And indeed it becomes so. The event is hosted by Big Brother stars Vimbai and Idris Sultan, and attended by a slew of African fashion icons and celebrities such as David Tlale, Zeddie Loky and more. David Tlale puts on a chill inducing fashion showcase of his latest collection which ends with a fan offering him a bouquet of flowers. Nigerian star Runtown performs alongside Bebe Cool, Ceaserous and Kenya’s Avril. Congolese star Papa Wemba is honored with a posthumous Lifetime achievement award.
